Dice Legacy – Review

What is Dice Legacy about?

Hello everyone, and welcome to another game review! Today, we will talk about a super fun game, Dice Legacy. Dice Legacy is a roguelike city builder, and the dice will decide every action you take. So hopefully, you will be lucky, and the die will help you gather resources, expand your borders, and explore the world around you. It also seems like a unique and fun game, as the die roll will decide your faith. I love these games, and Dice Legacy won some awards, so I was interested in checking it out.

Let’s Roll The Dice

Right as we start, it appears that the game has a lot of unique scenarios to play other than the main one, and it also has six different characters that we can use, but as we just started the game, we only have one available. The game also has five difficulties overall, so it can be a fun experience for those who want more fun and casual experience and gamers who want more of a challenge. You can also select whether you can pause the game or not. But since this is our first playthrough, I decided to pick the regular difficulty and leave the option to pause turned on. While I enjoy a challenge, I want to learn how the game works before jumping into the more complex difficulties.

Right as we begin, we have a brief tutorial that shows us how the dice works and that each one of them represents our workers. And every time we roll a dice, we reduce its durability, so if the durability of any die gets reduced to zero, it will, well, die! So we need to be careful not to use a specific die too much before we can have a way to replace it. And to be able to produce more die, we can build certain types of buildings so that they can make a specific type of die. For example, building a house will start producing more Peasant die. Still, there is also a way to restore die durability by making a cookhouse, selecting the dice you want to recover, and putting it in the cookhouse. However, there are also many different types of things that we can build, like production buildings and military ones.

Right at the start, I can already see that food is essential, as we use it to recover the durability from our die. So my first steps were to create a building that produces more dice and a cookhouse to recover them. Also, another essential mechanic of the game is that you need to keep your die happy, as their mood will affect their work, and if they’re angry, they won’t work as hard, and can even cause some harm to your village. To keep them happy, be sure always to have food and avoid letting any of your dies run out of durability and vanish.

Expanding And Approving Laws

As we begin to gather more resources and create more buildings, we find ourselves needing to expand our territory. To do that, we need to build a district hall that will expand our reach and increase efficiency around it. After a while, we also come across a council meeting, which happens every once in a while, to propose new laws to you. These laws will help you keep order in your kingdom and, if followed, will keep everyone happy. As we keep expanding our empire, we start to get attacked by other kingdoms at a certain point. And to make things worse, not only do we have to deal with the cold, but also a riot. One of our classes is unhappy, decides to revolt against us, and begins starting fires everywhere. And sadly, while I did try my best to contain the riot, in the end, I ended up losing because of it.

For it being my first time playing the game, I think I did a pretty good job, and while I was able to understand the basic concepts of the game, I noticed that I wasn’t paying much attention to the happiness of all the classes. So while I was able to expand quite a bit and had many buildings, I ended up neglecting my citizens’ happiness, which caused me to lose. Managing every type of resource was more challenging than I thought, and trying to keep citizens happy was something that I couldn’t do very well. So even though our first run wasn’t very successful, I cannot wait to try again and see just how far I can get this time.

My Conclusion

In the end, I had a lot of fun playing Dice Legacy, and I cannot wait to play it more. The game puts together a lot of elements that I like. Roguelike and Strategy fit so well together. The game was pretty challenging, even though I played it on the regular difficulty, it might take a while to get used to the game. All of its mechanics are pretty simple, and the overall idea of the game isn’t that hard to understand, but it is somewhat hard to apply it in the game, as things can get pretty chaotic, pretty fast. So if you guys enjoy this type of game, be sure to give it a try. The game is available for you to play on Steam, and the game isn’t that expensive, and it is totally worth its price.

I had a lot of fun playing Dice Legacy, and I cannot wait to play more and share it with you guys.
