Is It Worth Buying It On Switch? – Monster Train

What is Monster Train about?

Monster Train is a game that mixes rogue-like elements, with deck-building. In the game, you are in charge of a train that is traveling through hell, and after a long war, you are now in charge of the last shard of something called a shard of Hell’s pyre, that was extinguished during the war. And your objective is to safely deliver this shard back home and ignite the flames in Satan’s domain. However, that journey back home won’t be easy, as an army of angels will stand in your way, to try and stop you from completing your mission.

The Switch Version of Monster Train will include everything that has been release until then. Then includes “The Last Divinity” DLC and all the free Update cards, units and Gameplay features from before.

Hell Of A Ride

To be able to return the shard to where it belongs, you will need to fight off the angels that stand in your way. And to do that, you will need to use a deck of cards to summon demons from hell, and in turn, you will enter in a tower defense style combat. So you will need to use your deck, and fight off these angels so that you can continue on your way to deliver the shard. On every run, you will be able to choose from two factions, and as you play, you will unlock even more. With these factions, you will be able to build your deck and venture down the train tracks, fighting against the angels. And as you defeat them, you will get new cards, upgrade them, and come across treasures and artifacts to help you on your journey. And if you manage to reach the end of the line, you will finally be able to deliver the Hell’s pyre shard and complete your objective.

However, you’re able to do multiple runs, as you unlock more cards, and you get to experience building all different types of decks. So replayability is a big part of this game. And the fact that it is on the Switch, means that you can bring it with you, and play it wherever you are. That is the biggest advantage of having games on the Switch, as you can easily use the handheld mode, and switch it to deck mode as soon as you are in your home. The Switch version is the First Class Edition, which includes the Last Divinity DLC, which introduces a new faction to the game, a new type of currency that can give you better rewards, but makes it riskier to get them, and finally, also has a brand new boss for you to fight against.

We’ve already played this on PC and it was a blast. You can find our Review here.

So, should you buy it (again)?

If you have a Switch and do like Card-Games and/or Roguelikes then this a an easy recommendation. It is well worth the price for a full featured game and many hours you can put into this.

Do I recommend to buy this game again, if you already own it on PC? It depends. If you would like to play on the go and have a switch, then sure. But its not adding new features beside the portability. You could also wait for the new PC-like handhelds like the Steam Deck. With that your whole Steam Library is available on the go.
