Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin – Review
What is Monster Hunter Stories 2 about?
Monster Hunter is a well-known series of games published by Capcom, and Monster Hunter Stories 2 is a spin-off of the original series, and also a sequel to the first Monster Hunter Stories. It is an RPG game, where the combat is turn-based, unlike other games of the series. Your main objective is to progress through the story and discover what is driving certain monsters crazy. During your journey, you end up crossing paths with a girl named Ena, and you notice that she carries an egg with her, that was given to her by the guardian Ratha before he lost control, and went on a rampage. So now alongside her and the dragon that hatched from the egg, you embark on a journey to find and stop the source of what is making monsters go on a rampage.
And NO you don’t have to play the first game in order to understand the second game.
How to play Monster Hunter Stories 2?

The game is set in an open world, where you can run around and explore everything. Before venturing out into the open world, you can customize your character’s equipment, and choose between different sets of armor, and weapons. You can travel through the world more quickly by riding your mount, which also assists you in battle.

While playing the game, you will come across all different types of Monsties eggs that you can steal. You can get all different types of Monsties by hatching the egg, and what type of monster you get is completely random. Monsties are extremely important, as they’re your partner during the game, and not only do they assist us in battle, but they also help us gather all types of resources, as they can take us to places that we can’t reach by ourselves. So the more types of Monsties you have, the easier it will be for you to progress through the game!
There are also rare eggs that you can hunt for, and while they will not be easy to get, if you’re able to get one, it will for sure be worth all of its trouble. However doing it alone might be a bit too hard, so it is better to go online, and join other players to hunt for those eggs.
Monster Hunter is famous for having all different kinds of armor sets, and types of weapons. And to be able to craft them, you need to hunt monsters and search the map for the right resources. Different armors will give your character different statuses, so you can create armors that best fit your play style. There are six different types of weapons that you can use, and each one of them has a different skill-set that can change how combat goes. The greatsword deals a lot of damage, while the bow is better for afflicting the monster with status effects.

Crafting items is also an important aspect of the game, as it allows us to make healing items, traps, items that help us survive in freezing and burning hot temperatures. Buying blueprints are also important, as they can help us learn new weapon skills, and can also be used to expand our stable so that we can hatch and keep more monster in it.
My Conclusion
Monster Hunter Stories 2 seems like a pretty fun game. We get to create and customize our own character, and like most RPG games, I spent some time trying to make the character look like me. So after that, we go straight into the game, and after watching the opening cutscene of the game, we play the tutorial so that we can learn the basics about the game.
Our character is aiming to be a rider, and a rider named Kayna helps and teaches us everything we need to know to be able to become a great rider. She goes with us on our first mission and teaches us about how combat works, and how to ride and call our Monstie when out in the wild! She comes along with us on our first mission to help us find our first egg. When fighting against Monsties, each of them will focus on a certain type of attack. It can either be a power attack, technical attack, and speed attack. If a monster uses power attacks, you can counter them by using speed attacks, power counters technical attacks, and technical counters speed attacks. Every time you attack a monster, you will trigger a head-on encounter, and if you choose the right attack type, you will deal extra damage, but if you attack with the wrong type, you will receive extra damage.
Each Monsties you have in your party will usually use a certain kind of attack, and when you sync with it by using the same attack, you will perform a double attack, where you and your Monstie team up to deal a large amount of damage. Doing so will fill your kinship bar, and once it is full, you will be able to ride your Monstie. While riding it, you will deal more damage, and kinship skills can be used too. But be careful, as if you take too much damage, or lose too many head-on encounters, you will stop riding your Monstie.
The tutorial was pretty straightforward and pretty simple to understand. The game combat system doesn’t seem to be be extremely complicated, but it is important to pay close attention to your enemy movements, so you can always use the right type of against it. It is also important to find as many Monsties eggs as possible so that you can have all the different types of Monsties that you can use. Not only will different Monsties use different attack types, but they can also help you explore even more of the map.
We only began our journey with Monster Hunter Stories 2, but so far, it has been a pretty fun game. The game has charming graphics, and the combat system is interesting and fun. Being able to capture all different types of Monsties and ride them and use them in battle is super fun. I cannot wait to play more and to share this adventure with you guys.
Right now we’re not super deep into the story, but we already explored quite a bit of the map, and we’ve been completing as many side-quests as possible. I really like the artwork and animation 😀 also my collecting nerve has been hit for Monsties and Equipment! Lets gather them all!
I can’t wait to play more of this game with you guys. So be sure to stick around until the end of our journey.
